The marine firefighters of Toulon remember the terrible Marseille fire

Presided over by Vice-Admiral Christophe Lucas, commander of the maritime zone and district of the Méditerranée, in the presence of Vice-Admiral Lionel Mathieu, commander of the Bataillon de marins-pompiers de Marseille, and Capitaine de vaisseau Pierre Suleau, commander of the naval base of Toulon, this ceremony was an opportunity to recall the historic commitment of the marine firefighters of Toulon, 86 years ago, during a disaster that was one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century for the city of Marseille. Their major intervention helped control a devastating fire with a heavy toll. This tragedy was also at the origin of the creation of the Bataillon de marins-pompiers de Marseille. This celebration included a review of the troops, an address by the maritime prefect of the Méditerranée, and the reading of the order of the day. It was followed by the presentation of the badges of the land fire and rescue forces of the Marine nationale, specialty badges common to all marine firefighters.
