La Valette committed to combating violence in sport
Initiated by the préfecture du Var, the Comité Départemental Olympique et Sportif (CDOS) du Var held a symposium to address alarming violence in sport.
The symposium welcomed Philippe Mahé, préfet du Var, and Lucienne Roques, president of the CDOS du Var. Taking place at the Espace Pierre Bel, this event aimed to raise awareness among sports stakeholders (club leaders, educators, referees, participants, and their families) on this crucial issue, through the presentation of measures and testimonies.
“Our role is to raise awareness on these issues to build understanding and act together to combat their effects,” stated Lucienne Roques. Based on testimonies and surveys, the symposium highlighted the importance of strong commitments to combat this violence.
Here are the main actions decided upon: Implementation of the “Parents sport” scheme to encourage parent responsibility so they can pass on the importance of sports ethics and fair play; public information and awareness, notably with the “Cit Fairplay” stand to demonstrate good sporting behavior to children; and information relays for professionals and associations, who are also invited to verify the validity of their educators' professional cards.
