François de Canson: "When it comes to security, the Région is pursuing a proactive policy"
At the inauguration of the Cuers gendarmerie, François de Canson recalled the many efforts made since 2016 for greater security...

In the Région Sud, the gendarmerie is present across 80% of the territory and contributes to a feeling of well-being. Thus, François de Canson recalled the importance of the Force in maintaining public security in areas dedicated to the gendarmerie: "Allow me to thank them. Every time you call upon the Région to help you better protect this territory, we will be there!"

Thanks to my action, the Région supported Bernard Mouttet and his majority to obtain a gendarmerie brigade. Right from the start, thanks to technology, we were able to help General Darmann to support the project. I am therefore very pleased that the town was selected to host a gendarmerie.
Bernard Mouttet is a committed mayor, and for him, a promise made must be a promise kept. Once again, he kept his promise to his population. Cuers must become a safer town under the control of the gendarmerie.
Whether as president of the intercommunality or as vice-president of the Région, or quite simply as a friend since our school days together, I will always be committed by his side for Cuers. Thank you to the gendarmerie for everything you do for the protection of the Varois!
» THE RÉGION SUD, AN ACTIVE PLAYER IN SECURITY Previously, François de Canson had also recalled the actions of the Région in terms of security: "Since 2016 and even more so since 2021, the Conseil régional has been pursuing a proactive policy in favor of the security of the inhabitants of its territory. Initially focused on the Région's areas of competence, this policy was extended to the fields of civil security, and then to security forces as a whole". Concretely, since 2022, more than €23 million has been invested under the "Région Sud, la région sûre" initiative for the safety of the region's inhabitants, including €13.5 million to equip the national police and the national gendarmerie (individual and collective equipment, purchase of a patrol boat, strengthening the security of gendarmerie barracks, work on premises welcoming the public, bringing Mélanie rooms into compliance (specialized rooms for receiving victims of incest or violence), renovating the operational center (CORG) of the gendarmerie, taking charge of camera feed routing from municipalities to the gendarmerie or police).
This also resulted in €9.5 million to help 350 municipalities equip their municipal police and support video protection (775 cameras deployed in 50 municipalities, including 160 in the Var). More specifically, tactical vests were handed over to the gendarmes of La Valette, the Région contributed to modifying the public reception areas and hearing rooms in Brignoles, securing the barracks in Hyères and Le Lavandou, purchasing a patrol boat worth €400,000 for the Var police, and replacing the kennel at the Cuers gendarmerie (€300,000).

"During the December session, we expanded our scheme by proposing to assist municipalities in developing information and alert systems on their territory for their population in the event of serious occurrences or events likely to threaten their security. In 2025, the Région is maintaining its scheme, launched in 2018, which provides free transport for gendarmes and police officers on the regional network (train or bus) for their professional and private travel. Since October 2024, the Région has voted for a support scheme for law enforcement forces which assists the families of members of the forces who have died in the line of duty," insisted François de Canson.
