Delinquency drops significantly in police zone

In detail, the préfet detailed the Var figures with an 18.7% drop in violent thefts, a 12.1% drop in violence against people in public transport, a 12% drop in home burglaries, and a 4.7% drop in vehicle thefts. He also announced a more pronounced decline in delinquency during the summer period, with a 54% decrease in home burglaries and a 20% decrease in violent robberies. Thus in Toulon, the police recorded a downward trend in street delinquency. This is observed over the first 11 months of 2024. In detail, the Toulon figures show an 11% drop in street delinquency, a 24% drop in violent thefts, a 40% drop in commercial burglaries, an 11% drop in residential burglaries, a 15% drop in thefts from vehicles or vehicle accessories, and a 13% drop in thefts of motor vehicles and two-wheelers. This decline is particularly notable in the old center with a 26% decrease and in the city center and station area (minus 18%), thanks in particular to effective cooperation between the police nationale and the police municipale to protect the residential peace of the Toulon residents. Furthermore, police pressure exerted against drug trafficking has led to very good judicial results, with a 21% increase in convictions before the tribunal judiciaire of drug traffickers (178 cases). Finally, 1,100 drug users were fined or placed in custody, representing an average of 100 people arrested per month.

IN TOULON, NEARLY 3,000 PASSENGERS CHECKED

On December 11, a massive security operation was conducted in public transport. Managed by the direction interdépartementale de la Police nationale, in collaboration with the Police municipale and the réseau Mistral, this action aimed to reinforce security and combat offenses. The préfet du Var and the procureur de la République were present to mark the importance of this initiative. Deployed at the bus stop on place de la Liberté, the operation mobilized dozens of police officers. 2,950 passengers were checked. At the end of the check, the report released by the Police showed 160 fines issued for various offenses, notably related to the lack of a transport ticket, and 18 violations of legislation on foreigners.
