“A new gendarmerie is a symbol and a promise”
After over ten years of waiting and difficulties, notably due to the health crisis, the Le Beausset gendarmerie is a reality. This project…

The old premises, inadequate and unsanitary, no longer allowed them to carry out their missions under optimal conditions. The establishment of this infrastructure marks a turning point for local security and the efficiency of interventions.

The work, started in 2023, allowed for the demolition and asbestos removal of the old buildings to make way for a modern 450-square-meter structure. This project, with a scope of €6.5 million ex-VAT (€7.8 million inc-VAT), required the support of the State with €857,000 in funding, including an exceptional grant of €223,000 from the prefecture of Var and the Région with €250,000 in funding. NO SECURITY, NO PROSPERITY The regional official, vice-president of the Région Sud, took part in the inauguration of the Le Beausset gendarmerie on February 17, in the presence of numerous Var elected officials, representatives of the Var gendarmerie and the constituency's MP Frank Giletti.
“It is with immense pride and deep emotion that François de Canson confessed his pride in participating in the inauguration of the Le Beausset gendarmerie: ‘Pride, because this building is not just a building, it is the symbol of a commitment: that of the State, the local authorities and the Région Sud towards the safety of our citizens. Emotion, because behind these walls, there are women and men who watch over, protect, and embody the republican values that are the bedrock of our society. Victor Hugo wrote: “Liberty begins where ignorance ends.
’ Today, we assert a complementary truth: liberty is strengthened where security is assured. Without security, there is no prosperity, no serenity, no future. This is why the Région has made supporting the territories an absolute priority, by accompanying municipalities, inter-municipalities and all local actors to build a living environment up to our fellow citizens’ expectations.”
The vice-president of the Région added: “This inauguration is an additional stone laid in the edifice of our collective security. For a long time, the gendarmes of Le Beausset carried out their mission in conditions that had become unworthy. The wear and tear of time, the inadequacy of the infrastructure, the constraints of a daily life made more difficult by a lack of appropriate means...
all this belonged to a bygone era. Today, we turn the page and open a new chapter: that of a modern, functional tool, up to the level of the commitment of our law enforcement forces” (...)

STRONG MESSAGE Returning to the Région's action in terms of security, he resumed: “We acted by including this project in the ‘Nos Territoires d'Abord’ initiative, which embodies our desire to support the development and planning of our territory by putting proximity at the heart of our action. We are one of the few regions in France to financially support security infrastructure. We accept this assistance with conviction, because we know that a strong Republic is a Republic that protects.
And protecting means giving our gendarmes the means to carry out their mission under the best possible conditions” (...)
“In this dynamic, the reconstruction of the Le Beausset gendarmerie was a priority. With a regional grant of €250,162, we participated in this collective effort, alongside the State and the Communauté d'Agglomération. This commitment is not an end in itself, but a step in a broader policy of strengthening security and regional development.
Security is not limited to the walls of a gendarmerie. It is part of a broader framework, that of a balanced, harmonious, sustainable regional development (...)”, insisted François de Canson.
“This is why we are committed to an overall vision, where security is a pillar, alongside economic development, education, and the ecological transition. A gendarmerie is a symbol, a promise. Through this inauguration, we are doing much more than cutting a ribbon.
We are sending a strong message to those who ensure our protection. To you, gendarmes of Le Beausset, I want to express all our gratitude on behalf of the president of the Région Sud and on my own behalf. We know the sacrifices that your commitment implies, we know the harshness of your mission, and every day we measure the importance of your presence,” concluded the regional official.
