This phase marks the beginning of the installation of a series of 26 totems. At the same time, elected officials unveiled 27 new characters from the Var 44 application. La Valette-du-Var is the first municipality chosen for the installation of a totem.

Now permanent, the Var 44 project includes several actions led by the Département, including the installation of directional signage indicating the Var beaches of the Débarquement. This project has also resulted in a call for educational projects in middle schools on the theme of the duty of remembrance and the route du Débarquement, the launch of a virtual geolocation application, and exhibitions at the Archives départementales in Draguignan (extended until July 8) and at the Musée de la Marine (extended until June 29).

One of the major actions is therefore the creation of a virtual application launched on August 15, 2024, to discover, via a QR code on a site equipped with a totem, 80 stories about the Débarquement de Provence. The launch of the application involved discovering 26 characters and installing 26 totems in the municipalities. Last January, 27 new stories were integrated, leading to the installation of totems in 23 other municipalities of the Var, including 16 new ones.

The final series of characters (and therefore totems) will be developed in May with the integration of the 80 character stories to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Armistice of May 8, 1945.
