For François de Canson, inaugurating a school group is not an insignificant gesture: "It is not just cutting a ribbon, it is asserting who we are and who we want to be. A school is the keystone of any democratic society. It is here, within these walls, that we transmit more than knowledge: we transmit values.
Rigor of mind, curiosity, freely accepted discipline, fraternity, everything that makes a nation more than just a sum of individuals.
DEMANDING EDUCATION The project of the Ville de Cuers lives up to this ambition. The rehabilitation and expansion of the Jean Jaurès school group was an ambitious and exemplary project. In just 11 months, the Ville transformed this historic establishment into a modern, inclusive, sustainable, and environmentally friendly learning environment.
Thus, the school group has a capacity of 825 students. 825 children who will find here, every day, the conditions for a demanding and caring education. In this capacity, wearing his hat as president of Méditerranée Porte des Maures (MPM), François de Canson praised Bernard Mouttet, the mayor of Cuers, for his determination, commitment, and vision, which enabled this project to be successfully completed under exemplary conditions.
By allocating an €841,000 grant to this project, the Région Sud, under the leadership of Renaud Muselier, did much more than a financial gesture: it made a political and moral choice. As François de Canson further explained: "The Région has chosen to believe that the future of a territory is not built solely with roads, factories or administrations, but first and foremost in the eyes and ambitions of its children. In this same dynamic, Méditerranée Porte des Maures provided 18% of the funding, mobilizing more than €2.7 million to support this major achievement."
OBSCURANTISM Life is now in full swing in this school. Laughter echoes through the corridors. Notebooks are filled. Questions are asked. In Cuers, at the heart of the intercommunality, a new generation is building itself.
"By bearing the name of Jean-Jaurès, this school recalls a message that spans the centuries. Jaurès, a man of peace, a man of justice, believed with unwavering faith that school was the first bulwark against obscurantism and inevitability. He saw in education not only an instrument of individual emancipation but also a cement for national unity.
He wrote: "The school must unite the nation by raising everyone's spirit above divisions and hatreds."
In truth, where would we be, where would we go without this patient work of public instruction? Faced with the challenges of our time, the temptation of ignorance, the rise of fanaticism, the crumbling of the civic bond, the school remains the keystone of our République. For without a demanding school, there is no true freedom.
Without an open school, there is no concrete equality. Without a school true to its mission, there is no lasting fraternity," stated the mayor of La Londe-les-Maures.
In the classrooms of the Jean-Jaurès school, children are already learning to read, count, and think. Teachers, every day, pursue with self-sacrifice the noblest of missions: awakening free minds. Here, in the quiet daily routine of transmission, the great human adventure that is the République française is being written.
"Without embracing all of Jean Jaurès's political paths, I recognize, and I salute, the nobility of this fight for education, for equal opportunities, for the dignity of everyone. It belongs to the great French tradition which dictates that politics must first and foremost be at the service of mankind and their elevation, never at the service of private interests. Our duty, as elected officials, is to keep this fight alive.
By giving teachers the means to transmit. By giving students the tools to choose their destiny. By giving families reasons to believe in the République.
This school is a victory. A victory for public will. A victory for confidence in human intelligence. A victory for hope.
