The multi-storey car park, an ambitious project for the town centre
Work is progressing at a steady pace, marking a key milestone in the project to renature the town centre.
The first phase of the vast project to renature the town centre, launched in January 2025, is progressing on schedule. At the heart of this major operation is the construction of a free, modern, and environmentally friendly 216-space multi-storey car park. The opening of this facility is scheduled for November 2025.
On May 15, Hélène Arnaud-Bill, mayor of La Garde, accompanied by her municipal team, visited the construction site along with Jean-Louis Masson, president of the Département. This visit provided an opportunity to discover the chosen materials and the technical solutions implemented for this infrastructure. “It is important to see the projects take shape and to discuss the progress with all the stakeholders involved.
Together, we are working to improve our living environment,” stressed Hélène Arnaud-Bill.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT It is also a facility designed for tomorrow's mobility. The future car park is not just a simple parking structure. It anticipates the challenges of sustainable mobility with 11 charging stations for electric vehicles, including one dedicated to people with reduced mobility (PRM).
It also includes 6 PRM spaces on the ground floor, 18 spaces for motorcycles, and a large area for bicycles.
The foundations are now complete, and the metal structure, the installation of which began in early May, is already 15% built. It should be completed by the end of June. In the summer, the construction site will enter a new phase with the installation of the contemporary-looking facades, and the installation of solar panels planned for August, thereby strengthening the ecological footprint of the project.
The site is also a service hub under construction. Thus, in the immediate vicinity of the car park, the building of the future Pôle services is also taking shape. The second-floor slab is currently being poured, and the completion of the structural work is expected by mid-June.
The secondary work will extend until the end of October, for an overall delivery on schedule.
Beyond simple parking, this project illustrates the municipal determination to fully integrate the goals of ecological transition. Electric charging, renewable energy production, and lightweight construction are all choices guided by a logic of sustainability.
“This car park is a next-generation infrastructure. Built with a ventilated metal superstructure, it is lighter, more economical, and less polluting than a 100% concrete building,” the mayor specified.
With a limited ground footprint, this car park will integrate harmoniously into the future urban park, a 1.5-hectare green space where work is ongoing. Eventually, the Gardéens will find an open-air theatre, play areas, and landscaped paths there.
