An ambitious project to improve mobility

This project, costing €300 million fully funded by VINCI Autoroutes as part of the Escota concession contract, deeply transforms a motorway axis essential for travel by the inhabitants of Var, used by an average of 110,000 vehicles every day.

LARGE-SCALE PROJECT

The widening of the A57 to 2 x 3 lanes is part of an initiative aimed at improving traffic flow and safety in the TPM Métropole. This project, awaited by an entire region, offers numerous benefits: improved traffic conditions, a contribution to the region's development and attractiveness, and enhanced safety for users and VINCI Autoroutes staff working daily on this very busy section. On the occasion of the inauguration, Philippe Tabarot was delighted: "This is an unprecedented achievement which I think will set a precedent and serve as a model nationally. This achievement shows how transport modes can be reconciled, and that intermodality can also work on the motorway. We can see that modes of transport can be complementary." Indeed, the lane dedicated to the metropolitan bus was put into service on the same day. For local elected officials, it is also a source of great satisfaction. "I had my doubts, but I must admit that the entrance into Toulon is much smoother," confessed Jean-Pierre Giran. And Josée Massi added: "We are very happy, especially since we had planned for five years and the project is 18 months ahead of schedule. It is an exemplary project that was carried out with local residents and inhabitants."

A HEAVY HEART

For Salvador Nunez, director of operations for the A57: "The third lane of the A57 is undeniably an asset for Toulon and the Métropole. When taking stock, I prefer to keep the best of it. Because widening a motorway is a human adventure. It involves men and women who have invested themselves. This project was awaited and above all wanted by local officials and the population. Succeeding and seeing that people are satisfied makes us rather happy. We spent 10 years of our lives in Toulon. And I wouldn't be lying if I told you that I'll have a bit of a heavy heart leaving the city!" Finally, Jean Bernadet, president of NGE, declared: "It is with great pride that I welcome the completion of the widening of the A57 in Toulon, which illustrates NGE's ability to meet major technical challenges for the benefit of regions. This project, carried out in synergy by six of our subsidiaries, embodies our multi-business model. Thanks to this coordination, we have met our commitments alongside VINCI Autoroutes. This project goes far beyond a technical feat as it reflects our desire to build sustainable and useful infrastructure, serving the residents and their daily lives."
