A symbolic and powerful moment, which highlighted the importance of voting, particularly in this uncertain period. In her speech, Hélène Arnaud-Bill, Mayor of La Garde, recalled the foundations of democracy: freedom, civic responsibility, and commitment. She emphasized that the right to vote, hard-won – especially for women in 1945 – is much more than a simple duty: it is a personal but also a collective act. Young people were encouraged to inform themselves, debate, and make informed choices, including through blank voting if they wish. Respect for others, equality – including for people with disabilities – and fraternity were mentioned as the essential pillars of a just society. Finally, the mayor invited young people not to remain spectators of current issues, but to take their full place in democratic life, whether at the local, national, or European level. •
