Roadworks on the RD 559 at the Pont de la Clue
For 7 months, the Département is carrying out major roadworks on the RD 559 in the municipalities of La Garde and Le Pradet.
Since 12 May, development work on an "intelligent" traffic light junction has been carried out on the RD 559, alongside the construction of a soft mobility footbridge (La Garde and Le Pradet) at the Pont de la Clue. As the works heavily impact the junction, certain road crossings (laying of networks and resurfacing) are mainly carried out at night between 9:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., in order to minimize disruption to traffic on the RD 559, 42 and 2242. This operation aims to secure soft mobility modes and to ease road traffic during peak hours. The works will also improve the landscape quality on this section of the RD559 and around the junctions with the RD42 and RD2242.
INTELLIGENT TRAFFIC LIGHTS
Replacing the current traffic lights with adaptive, so-called "intelligent" lights will allow a shorter cycle that adapts to traffic and will reduce waiting times. As the works are being carried out during traffic, a set of temporary traffic lights has been set up until the installation and commissioning of the new lights to maintain the operation of the junction. However, the setting up of alternating traffic lights or manual control on the RD 559 is not permitted during peak hours (only between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.). Furthermore, the speed limit is set to 30 km/h in the work zone. Regarding public transport, 4 lines of the Mistral network use the Pont de la Clue junction: lines 23 (Gare Toulon - Espace 3 000), 39 (Gare routière Toulon - Lycée Golf Hôtel), 98 (Tourrache - Terre Promise) and school transport line GA 01 (Collège Bosco - Écoles de la Garde). Additionally, two "Pont de la Clue" stops exist on the RD 559 and the RD 42, but are not affected by the construction site. Finally, the Département urges road users to exercise the utmost caution and to respect the temporary signage put in place for their safety and that of the workers.
Cost of the works:
€1,800,000 incl. tax financed by the Département with a contribution from the MTPM (€233,000 excl. tax).
