Thus, the Unité nautique départementale de la police nationale du Var (APARA) carries out surveillance missions along the Var coastline and the department's 5 islands (Le Levant, Port-Cros, Porquerolles, Bendor, Les Embiez). The police nationale patrol boat TARA, assigned to the police district of Hyères - Carqueiranne and operational year-round, is active until September 15 and conducts random boat checks. At the same time, the police secure transport hubs with high tourist concentrations (stations, ports, airports) departing from and arriving at the commercial port of Toulon - La Seyne-sur-Mer. Furthermore, the securing of bodies of water is carried out in liaison with the préfecture maritime. The brigades nautiques de gendarmerie of Le Lavandou and Les Issambres are mobilized for the control and securing of water activities, including on lakes. This entire system also contributes to sea rescue operations alongside the 9 stations of the SNSM, the resources of the SDIS, and carries out the monitoring and policing at sea of commercial, recreational fishing, and water leisure activities. In addition, the Direction départementale des territoires et de la mer (DDTM) penalizes offenders by suspending or even revoking vessel operating licenses, an administrative measure complementary to any potential criminal prosecution. The harbor officers, agents of the DDTM, ensure, under the authority of the préfet and the port authority (MTPM), the proper functioning of port services and maritime safety during a period of very high attendance (600,000 passengers for Corse, the Baléares, and Sicile). Similarly, the préfet requested all port authorities and shipowners to set up, for the summer season, a security system during boardings aimed at ensuring passenger safety. For its part, the brigade des transports de la gendarmerie of La Valette-du-Var ensures passenger safety on the TER lines, while the police nationale implements frequent passages of dynamic patrols and fixed checkpoints with identity checks during days and times of peak attendance, as part of securing public transport and the in-depth fight against irregular immigration (large and small stations, trains, buses, Mistral network, sea shuttles, road vectors, etc.). In the sector of the golfe de Saint-Tropez, a detachment of the gendarmerie des transports aériens of Nice controls air traffic from the La Môle airfield (helicopters).
