This recognition honors the commune's long-standing commitment to animal welfare and the place of animals in public spaces. It is part of a broader policy to raise awareness among residents and respect biodiversity. For several years, the Ville de La Garde has been pursuing a proactive environmental policy.

Thus, since 2017, it has been part of the membership area of the Parc national de Port-Cros charter. One third of the communal territory consists of green spaces and natural areas, reflecting the richness of its ecological heritage. In 2018, La Garde was the first commune in Var to benefit from a Zone Agricole Protégée.

In 2020, it became the first to obtain the Apicité label for its actions in favor of pollinators. Finally, the Espace nature départemental du Plan, a natural area of faunal and floral interest, is home to 226 animal species recorded by the Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux, including several rare species (butterflies, bats, amphibians, etc.)

CONCRETE ACTIONS With this new label, the City asserts its desire to further strengthen its policy in favor of animals, with several significant actions already underway. Thus, it plans to install nesting boxes in collaboration with the LPO and recreation centers. It will set up animal reception in senior residences and early childhood structures.

It organized a dog parade during the Hivernales. At the same time, it supports feline protection associations and guide dog structures for the blind. Finally, it has authorized municipal employees to access public buildings with their pets.

In conclusion, the "Ville amie des animaux" initiative highlights the actions already put in place while driving new projects in favor of better coexistence between humans and animals within the commune.
