MODERNITY AND TRADITIONS Roland Joffre, who was mayor of the commune from 1989 to 2008, has passed away, leaving behind a deep and lasting legacy. La Ville paid him a republican tribute on July 24. For nearly two decades, he served the Pradétans with dedication, humanity and a rare justness of vision.

A man of the field, deeply rooted in his commune, Roland Joffre knew its every alley, every hill, every breath of history. He spoke the local language, shared its values and understood, often before others, the expectations of his fellow citizens.

TRANSFORMATIONS Under his term, Le Pradet underwent profound transformations. We owe to him the creation of the Espace des Arts, the opening of the Charles Sandro school, a symbol of his commitment to youth, or the development of the place Flamencq, now the beating heart of local life. He was also the first president of the Syndicat Intercommunal de la Mine, between 1989 and 2008.

A founding member of the musée de la Mine de Cap Garonne, he was an ardent defender of the development of these former copper mines.

But his action did not stop at infrastructure alone. Visionary and respectful of the environment, he worked with determination to preserve the massifs of the Colle Noire and the Gavaresse, protecting these natural spaces from the pressures of urbanization. His urban planning was thoughtful, measured, always concerned with preserving the balance between development and quality of life.

Under his leadership, Le Pradet managed to reconcile modernity and traditions, economic dynamism and the preservation of its Provençal soul.

Roland Joffre was a rigorous man, attentive to the most vulnerable, deeply attached to local memory and the roots of his commune. His passing leaves an immense void.

But his action, his spirit and his convictions continue to live on through the places, projects and values he was able to carve into the Pradétan landscape. He will remain, for many, the image of an engaged mayor, close to the people, guided by the love of his town.

La Gazette du Var presents its sincere condolences to his wife Nicole, his children Eric and Marc and his grandchildren.
