After an event-filled week as part of the Âge d’Or, organized by the CCAS, the Mutualité Française and the Ville organized a forum entitled "How to live well in retirement?" on October 16 at the salle Guérin. Aimed at Valettois seniors, this event offered meetings with health professionals and local institutions, practical and personalized information, as well as activities promoting well-being and independence. Participants also enjoyed friendly discussions among retirees. This gathering took place within a national context marked by profound transformations. French society is facing three major revolutions: the digitalization of our lives, climate change, and demographic aging. While the first two receive extensive media coverage, the aging of the population remains an issue that is still too often relegated to the background. In 2020, 20% of the French population was 65 or older, representing 13.5 million people. In 2030, this proportion is expected to reach 23.4%, or 16.4 million people, with those over 65 outnumbering young people under 20. By 2050, one in three inhabitants will be aged 60 or older, representing an 80% increase in 45 years. To address these challenges, it is crucial to adapt society to aging and to strengthen the independence of seniors. The autonomy reform, announced following the "Fabrique du Bien Vieillir", must meet the expectations of professionals and citizens. An approach taking into account all the needs and aspirations of older people and their family caregivers is essential to promote genuine healthy aging and enable seniors to remain active participants in their daily lives.
