The Ville de Toulon showed its commitment to the fight against breast cancer by inviting Toulonnaises to get screened. Three days of breast cancer awareness and screening were organized by the Prévention – Santé department in collaboration with the direction des Sports and various partners: the centre régional de coordination des dépistages des cancers, the Ligue contre le cancer, the communautés professionnelles territoriales de santé, and the Caisse primaire d’assurance maladie (CPAM) of the Var. The first one took place at the Mayol shopping center on October 15. Alongside this date, free fitness classes were offered at the Port-Marchand gymnasium and aquagym at the Port-Marchand swimming pool to encourage Toulonnaises and Toulonnais to practice sports regularly. Indeed, physical activity is a means of prevention in the fight against cancer. It helps regulate weight, reduce the risk of recurrence, and improves quality of life before, during, and after the disease. Two other half-days were organized on October 20 at the Maison des services publics of Sainte-Musse and on October 24 at the Espace Beaucaire. These actions were part of the mental health contract that will be signed by the end of the year. Finally, as a sign of support and its commitment to the fight against breast cancer, the Ville de Toulon lit up several iconic monuments in the municipality with pink lighting, such as the fontaine de la Fédération on the place de la Liberté throughout the month of October.

In the région Sud, the screening participation rate is constantly falling (34.3% in 2024) and is below the national average (44.2% in 2024). Breast cancer remains the leading cause of death in women, with nearly 12,100 deaths per year, and affects nearly 50,000 women in France. Born in the United States in 1985 and arriving in the Hexagone in 1994, the Octobre Rose operation aims to raise awareness and mobilize the general public against this disease.
