In towns and in Var, Very High-Speed Broadband is now available
In just under 100 days, the copper network will be shut down in Carqueiranne, La Crau and Le Pradet.

Ainsi, le 27 janvier 2026, tous les services associés au réseau téléphonique en cuivre, tels que le téléphone fixe et l'internet (RTC, ADSL, VDSL, SDSL), seront définitivement interrompus dans les communes de Carqueiranne, La Crau, Le Pradet, soit plus de 25 800 logements. « Tous les clients (particuliers, professionnels, entreprises ou administrations) qui n’ont pas encore migré vers une autre solution technologique (fibre, 4G/5G fixe ou satellite) sont invités à le faire, en se rapprochant de leur opérateur commercial. Cela concerne environ 8% des lignes cuivre qui sont encore actives », avertissent les responsables d'Orange en Provence-Côte d'Azur.
The switchover to Very High-Speed Broadband will extend to all communes of Var by 2030. Thus, on January 27, 2026, all services associated with the copper telephone network, such as landline telephones and the Internet (PSTN, ADSL, VDSL, SDSL), will be permanently shut down in the communes of Carqueiranne, La Crau, Le Pradet, representing more than 25,800 homes.
“All customers (individuals, professionals, companies, or administrations) who have not yet migrated to another technological solution (fibre, fixed 4G/5G, or satellite) are invited to do so by contacting their commercial operator. This affects around 8% of copper lines that are still active,” warn managers at Orange in Provence-Côte d'Azur.
GROWING DEMAND “The transition to fibre is a major step forward in the digital transformation of the region. Indeed, faced with the explosion of uses and the growing demand for connectivity, the historic copper network (landline telephony and ADSL) is reaching its limits. This network, which has long supported France's digital development, no longer meets current needs in terms of speed, reliability, and adaptability,” they explain, once again, at Orange.
The historical operator adds: “Furthermore, optical fibre is progressing across the territory and is attracting more and more new users. It offers higher performance speeds (up to 60% higher than copper), is more robust (failure rate 1.5 times higher on copper than on fibre), is more energy-efficient (energy consumption 4 times lower than copper), and is less sensitive to weather conditions than the copper network.”
Orange has also announced the gradual closure of its copper network, the historical support for landline telephony and high-speed Internet, by 2030, in 7 successive batches. Very High-Speed Broadband is now available in Var with the deployment of optical fibre and 4G/5G or satellite technologies as a complement, which should allow everyone to find a solution tailored to their needs.
To date, 94% of households are eligible for optical fibre. Mobile networks are massively deployed by Orange, allowing access to 4G/5G Home offers for Very High-Speed Internet at home. Thus, 99.8% of the population is covered by 4G and 91.2% by 5G (47 communes).
For less accessible or isolated areas, the Orange Satellite offer is available with a monthly subscription equivalent to other Orange offers.
• Following the technical closure of the first communes in France at the beginning of this year (batch 1), Var is now affected starting from batch 2 according to the following schedule: Batch 2 – technical closure: January 27, 2026 3 communes: Carqueiranne, La Crau, Le Pradet. Batch 3 – technical closure: January 31, 2027 8 communes: Bargème – La Bastide – La Farlède – La Londe-les-Maures – Ollioules – Sanary-sur-Mer – Sillans-la-Cascade – Vinon-sur-Caramy. Batch 4 – technical closure: May 31, 2028 27 communes: Bagnols-en-Forêt – Belgentier – Callian – Le Cannet-des-Maures – Châteaudouble – Cogolin – Comps-sur-Artuby – La Croix-Valmer – Esparron – Flassans-sur-Issole – La Garde – Gassin – Le Luc – La Martre – Moissac-Bellevue – Mons – Montauroux – Montfort-sur-Argens – Ollières – Pontevès – La Roque-Esclapon – Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume – Saint-Paul-en-Forêt – La Seyne-sur-Mer – Six-Fours-les-Plages – Vinon-sur-Verdon – Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer.
Batch 5 53 communes in consultation phase until November 30. Batches 6 and 7 not yet known.
