Depuis 1986, le festival promeut et soutient la jeune création internationale de mode. Depuis 1997 un concours est ouvert aux photographes émergents et depuis 2016, un concours distingue les nouveaux créateurs d’accessoires de mode. Il est reconnu comme le plus ancien concours de mode destiné aux jeunes professionnels dans le monde. Plusieurs prix récompensaient les créateurs en compétition grâce aux dotations des partenaires du festival qui s’engagent avec eux pour les accompagner dans la durée. Une aide pratique est apportée dès la sélection des candidats, puis pendant une période de deux ans couvrant de nombreux domaines : financement, production, juridique, presse, exposition, atelier et résidence. La 40ème édition s'est tenue du jeudi 16 au samedi 18 octobre à la villa Noailles, à Hyères. « Ce Festival est unique par son objet, sa longévité et son rayonnement. Dans les moments charnières de l’histoire d’une institution, il est important de revenir aux sources afin de comprendre ce qui est essentiel et de regarder vers l’avant », a confié Hugo Lucchino, le nouveau Directeur général du Centre d’art, qui succède au fondateur du Festival Jean-Pierre Blanc.

The 40th edition was held from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 October at the villa Noailles, in Hyères. Since 1986, the festival has promoted and supported young international fashion design. Since 1997, a competition has been open to emerging photographers, and since 2016, a competition has distinguished new fashion accessory designers.

It is recognized as the oldest fashion competition for young professionals in the world.

Several prizes rewarded the designers in competition thanks to grants from the festival partners, who commit to supporting them over the long term. Practical assistance is provided from the selection of candidates, and then over a two-year period covering many areas: funding, production, craftsmanship, materials, publishing, legal, press, exhibition, workshop, and residency.

"This Festival is unique in its purpose, longevity, and influence. At pivotal moments in the history of an institution, it is important to return to the source to understand what is essential and to look forward," confided Hugo Lucchino, the new Director General of the Centre d'art, who succeeds Festival founder Jean-Pierre Blanc.

Among the other winners, the Frenchman Adrien Michel received the 19M prize for his technical approach to the interplay of materials and his work on hybridization. The Perfecto collection by Polish and Palestinian finalist Layla Al Tawaya was rewarded with the Atelier des Matières prize.
