The world of possibilities according to Arwen
Drawing since she could hold a pencil, Arwen was not destined for art because, during her schooling, she studied engineering!
It was in 2020, during the lockdown, that she got back to it after a break of more than 20 years. 'Having neither support nor materials, I started painting on my bedroom windows with my children's gouache. It was a revelation and, since then, I haven't stopped,' confides the young woman. She adds: 'I am fascinated by street art and I spend hours watching murals and videos of street artists. In early 2021, I did my first spray painting on free walls.' A year later and with several creations to her credit, she started acrylic painting on kraft paper and street collage on the theme of the female portrait. 'My pleasure is the material! That of the wall, its support, the paint, and the meeting between these materials and my model,' the artist admits. Self-taught and eager for experience, she has diversified by painting on walls, wood, stone, kraft paper, tissue paper, glass, fabric, and canvas. 'In my artistic approach, I favor salvaging and I am turning towards increasingly natural materials, such as walnut stain, wine, pigments, ochres, and binders like egg yolk,' explains Arwen, who recently exhibited her work at the Le Moulin gallery (29 October – 14 November).
