PROJECT SUPPORTED BY THE EUROPEAN UNION

The Marseille-Bizerte segment benefits from co-financing from the European Union via the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). Three fiber pairs belonging to Orange thus benefit from support under the European Global Gateway strategy, aiming to strengthen connections between Europe and Africa, support the digital transition and reduce the digital divide. In this regard, Michael Trabbia, CEO of Orange Wholesale, stated: “We are proud to put our leadership and expertise at the service of the Medusa cable, hosted in our secure infrastructure in Marseille, with the laying carried out by our cable ships, the Teliri and the Sophie Germain. Our infrastructure is an essential link in the connectivity of the Mediterranean basin, guaranteeing digital resilience and supporting socio-economic development. With this landing, Orange strengthens Europe’s digital sovereignty and the position of Marseille as a global digital hub, now concentrating the arrival of 17 undersea cables connected to the entire world.” Specifically, the supplier of the Medusa cable is Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN). Elettra Tlc, a shipowner and subsidiary of Orange, coordinated the project and commissioned Orange Marine’s cable ship Sophie Germain for the cable landing operations in Marseille.
