The Saint-Jean à la Porte Latine church unveils its treasures

Guided by Thierry Albertini, the mayor, as well as by the craftsmen and architects involved, they discovered the progress of a major project due to be completed by the end of this year. “The appeal for donations launched to support the operation met with a great response. More than €38,000 was raised out of the €50,000 expected, including €17,000 from two top-up grants from the Fondation du patrimoine. The construction site even attracted interest from contributors from other regions, proof of the heritage influence of the building, parts of which date back to the Middle Ages,” the mayor welcomed.

FULL PROGRAM

Over the course of the work, two discoveries particularly struck the team. First, the graves of Father Martre — murdered during the Revolution — and then that of the Marquis d’Espinville. They were uncovered during the preparatory work. On the restoration side, the program includes rewiring the electrical system, restoring the tabernacle, stained glass windows and frescoes, restoring the chandeliers, laying new stone and terracotta tiling, and applying new plaster to all the walls. The side door and its transom, both classified as Monuments historiques, are also undergoing meticulous restoration.
