CHITS remains mobilized against HIV

On December 1st at the Sainte-Musse hospital site, information stands and prevention and screening workshops were run by the CEGIDD 83 team along with the associations ENIPSE, AIDES, CAARUD, AVASTOFA TOTEM and TABOU. Participants interacted with the teams of the recently opened day hospital and were able to discover the prevention and monitoring systems for people living with HIV.

SCREENING

Then, on December 4th, in Draguignan, the Maison des étudiants hosted a prevention day in which the CEGIDD 83 team – Fréjus site participated. Awareness, quizzes, screening, exchanges, and distribution of documentation were offered to students. On the same day, the KEDGE campus in Toulon organized a similar day, and the Université de Toulon hosted prevention actions led by the Planning Familial Varois, the centre LGBT du Var and the CRIPS, including activities and screening. In Var, CEGIDD plays a central role in the fight against HIV and sexually transmitted infections. It provides screening, in collaboration with partner associations, throughout the year. Effective prevention methods are offered: free screening in laboratories and CEGIDD facilities, free condoms up to 26 years of age or reimbursed with a prescription, as well as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis), available by prescription.

Finally, at the Sainte-Musse hospital site, the CHITS day hospital for infectious diseases ensured the follow-up of people living with HIV or viral hepatitis. In summer 2025, a therapeutic education program was opened for these patients, offering workshops as well as individual or group interviews to better understand the disease and improve the daily lives of those affected.

In France, 180,000 people are living with HIV.

In 2024, 5,100 new infections were recorded, more than 40% of which were at an advanced stage of the disease. Sexually transmitted infections also increased, with 61,100 cases of Chlamydia, 25,800 cases of gonococci, and 6,500 cases of syphilis.
