Christian Lopez, 2025 Pizza World Champion
The Varois pizzaiolo caused a sensation by winning the coveted Pizza World Champion title at the Pizza World Cup Classica 2025 in Rome.

This championship, which takes place every year in the Italian capital, allowed Christian Lopez to stand out among hundreds of competitors. The Varois began his culinary career by obtaining a CAP cuisine, although he had not planned to specialize in pizza. After working in several pizzerias, he went independent in 2014, heading Luciano Pizza.
"It was a dream come true," he confides, enthusiastic about the idea of sharing his passion for pizza.

DETERMINATION His competitive career began in 2023 with the Food 'In Sud Trophée phocéen in Marseille. That year, the pizzaiolo presented an anchovy pizza, a recipe close to his Marseillais heart. Despite a fourth-place finish in his first competition, his determination led him to win the title of best phocéen pizzaiolo in January 2024.
The following year, Christian Lopez took part in the world pizza championship in Rome, where he impressed the jury by placing second, without any preparation or training. "I learned from my mistakes," he admits. His creation, a Saint-Pierre crudo pizza, revealed his sense of originality, although he still had progress to make on the knowledge questionnaire.
But in 2025 everything changed. He dominated the competition with an armoricaine-style octopus pizza, proving that the dough is the key element, representing 80% of the score. "It was a gourmet pizza, with a light and crispy dough, accompanied by charcoal potatoes and preserved lemons," he specifies.
TOWARDS TRAINING With his wealth of experience, he plans to open a pizzaiolo training program in January 2026, aimed at young middle school students and adults. With 20 years of experience, he offers a four-day program combining theory and practice.
His ambitions do not stop there. He wishes to help talented young people prepare for competitions. "The Master training will benefit from personalized follow-up for those wishing to perfect their skills," he adds.
Finally, this event was supported by the Folliero family, organizers of the championship and creators of a museum dedicated to the history of pizza. Christian Lopez is now a pizza ambassador, combining tradition and innovation, and continues to make French expertise shine on the international stage.
