In 2024, 256,756 tonnes of waste collected

Among them, the report on the prevention and management of household and similar waste, as well as the annual report of the Commission intercommunale pour l’accessibilité, illustrate the constant commitment of the Métropole TPM to the ecological transition, inclusion, and the improvement of the residents' quality of life. The Conseil métropolitain took note of the 2024 annual waste report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the public waste prevention and management service across the 12 municipalities of the territory. The year was marked by significant progress, both in terms of waste reduction and the modernization of equipment. In 2024, 256,756 tonnes of waste were collected across the entire metropolitan territory, including 64% of residual household waste destined for incineration. Material recovery, through recycling, reuse, and repurposing, reached 47% of the collected tonnages, confirming the progress made towards more sustainable waste management. The annual report also highlights the financial balance of the public waste service. For the year 2024, expenditures amounted to 85.2 million euros, while revenues from taxes and fees reached 86.8 million euros. The collection and treatment of residual household waste alone represented 44.8 million euros, underlining the major challenge that waste reduction at the source represents to sustainably control service costs. Key highlights of the year notably include the continued decline in household waste per inhabitant, with a reduction target nearly achieved, the deployment of biowaste collection, with a trial of voluntary drop-off points in La Valette-du-Var, the modernization of environmental hubs, including the completion of works on the Hyères recycling center, and the development of innovative actions to combat littered waste, in particular the collection of cigarette butts. These results reflect a collective mobilization, bringing together the Métropole, the municipalities, and the residents, to improve sorting, strengthen waste recovery, and limit its environmental impact. Elected officials also reviewed the 2024 annual report of the Commission intercommunale pour l’accessibilité, a dialogue body bringing together elected officials, associations, and local stakeholders. This report highlights the actions taken to improve the accessibility of roads, public spaces, transport, and metropolitan facilities. •
