François de Canson advocates for 'the freedom of the communes'

In a strict pre-electoral context, the elected official transformed the impossibility of presenting a record into a vibrant plea for the local level, a 'silent solution' in the face of national crises. It was before a large audience that this final ceremony of the term took place, a moment described by the mayor as 'one of the times of the year that I am most fond of'. While friendliness was the order of the day, the tone was also solemn with the municipal elections of March 15 and 22 approaching.

SILENCE IMPOSED, LIBERATED SPEECH

Contraint par le code électoral qui interdit la promotion des réalisations sortantes 6 mois avant le scrutin, le maire a prévenu : « Je n’ai donc pas la liberté de dresser le bilan de notre action pas plus que je n’ai le droit d’annoncer de nouveaux projets. Non pas que nous n'ayons des résultats à mettre à notre actif, bien au contraire, et vous avez tous pu apprécier le dynamisme de notre commune durant ces années ». Il a tenu à distinguer sa fonction actuelle de celle de candidat, précisant qu'il s'adressera aux électeurs « dans d'autres lieux ». Faute de pouvoir évoquer le futur programme, François de Canson a choisi de parler du cadre de l'action publique, dressant un constat sans concession de la situation nationale. Évoquant un « pays qui traverse une période vertigineuse d’inquiétude et un spectacle politique parisien. Ce spectacle politique ne fait rien pour nous détourner de ce vertige » marqué par les divisions, il a fermement défendu la gestion locale. « Les débats parlementaires, trop souvent dérisoires et hurlants, révèlent une classe politique à bout de souffle, incapable d'imaginer une voie pour maîtriser la dette autrement que des impôts insupportables », s'est désolé le maire varois. Il a ajouté : « La France n'en finit plus de voir ses talents s'expatrier là où ils peuvent s'exprimer, son commerce extérieur s'effondre, sa dette publique inexorablement augmente. Les habitants de notre territoire et plus largement de notre pays éprouvent de plus en plus de difficultés ».

Facing recurring criticisms regarding local spending, the mayor recalled a financial truth: 'All the communes of France represent barely 2% of the public debt, while they carry nearly 90% of civilian public investment'. For the elected official, the commune remains the 'first rampart of the Republic and a small nation' where true local connection is practiced. He called for a 'new act of decentralisation', based on trust rather than bureaucratic constraint. 'The commune is not France's problem: it is its silent solution', he insisted. Beyond politics, this speech was an ode to the identity of La Londe, this 'village spirit' made of mutual respect and intergenerational bonds. 'La Londe is not just a place where we live; it is a place that lives within us', the mayor emphasized with emotion. In conclusion, without giving voting instructions, the mayor stressed the importance of civic duty for the upcoming elections in March. 'I would like to encourage you to vote overwhelmingly so that our reputation as a Citizen City lives on', he declared. Quoting Général de Gaulle, he invited the Londais to make 2026 'the year of all possibilities', wishing his town a 'serene and happy' future.
