This initiative demonstrates the institution's deep attachment to those who shared the lives and commitment of its former members. It is based on three values: Solidarity, memory, and transmission. In Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, each territorial unit mobilized during this period to meet the widows of the arme.
VISITS AND GIFT BOXES These visits were an opportunity to deliver end-of-year gift boxes, with the support of the Fondation de la Maison de la Gendarmerie, and to share a moment of exchange, listening, and conviviality. 'In the Var, this action took on a special dimension thanks to the involvement of the cadets of the gendarmerie, supervised by the Réserve Jeunesse service of the groupement de gendarmerie départementale. The commitment of the cadets brought great added value to these meetings and fostered the transmission of the values, history, and spirit of the gendarmerie,' says adjudant Nicolas Moulin, assistant to the Réserve Jeunesse service, and president of the ACSPMG (Histoire et Patrimoine de la Gendarmerie).
Indeed, these exchanges often lead to emotionally rich moments where memories resurface with anecdotes of service, barrack life, memories of cohesion, and stories of shared commitment. These testimonies serve as a reminder that the gendarmerie is, above all, a large family, closely linked to its retirees. Each territorial unit ensures this contact is maintained through regular visits or by inviting former members to various events in the unit's life: ceremonies, commemorations, change of command ceremonies, or social gatherings.
LINKS RETIREES - ACTIVE DUTY 'The associations of retired gendarmerie members join in this initiative, and together we carry out the visits, which strengthens the links between retirees and active members. In this respect, the cadets of the gendarmerie actively contribute to maintaining this link of memory and recognition through their actions, and more particularly, as flag-bearers. By participating in patriotic and commemorative ceremonies, they embody the continuity between generations and pay tribute to those who have served under the colors of the institution,' as adjudant Nicolas Moulin points out.
Highly appreciated by the beneficiaries and former members, this action illustrates the gendarmerie's determination never to forget its own and to keep the values of solidarity, respect, and transmission alive on a daily basis.
