While the tradition of New Year's wishes is a convivial moment, this 2026 edition carried a particular gravity. The director, who also heads the Centre Hospitalier d'Hyères under joint management, began his address with a heartfelt thought for the patient who died in the fire that recently struck the Hyères facility. He wished to salute “the exemplary mobilization of the teams” and the national solidarity received on this occasion.
Beyond the emergency, this ceremony was one of innovation, marked by the presentation of awards for the second edition of the research competition led by the DRCI of the Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire (GHT) du Var. GROWING ACTIVITY The public hospital continues to see its activity grow. After a 5% increase in 2024, the CHITS recorded a growth of +4.4% in 2025.
To cope with this demand and avoid saturation — the facility experienced three internal mobilization plans last year — management is relying on transformation and investment. Several major projects have come to fruition, such as the opening of an outpatient surgery unit, the overhaul of gynecological and obstetric emergency services, and the deployment of units dedicated to adolescent mental health. The Director confirmed that the investment effort would continue in 2026 to support healthcare staff and improve the patient journey.
The “Schéma Directeur Immobilier”, supported by the ARS, is now stabilized for Hyères and La Seyne, and is being finalized for Sainte-Musse, with priorities targeted on operating theaters, intensive care, and emergency services.
MEDICAL EXCELLENCE Recognized among the best hospitals in France by the rankings of Le Point and Newsweek, the CHITS is continuing its momentum towards university status with the appointment of two new associate territorial professors. However, this ambition must contend with a constrained budget context. Management is maintaining its “efficiency and sustainability plan” launched two years ago.
The objective is clear for 2026: to diversify funding, notably through sponsorship, and to control costs while preserving the quality of care.
The year 2026 marks a key milestone for the Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire with the deployment of the single computerized patient file. This digital project begins at the CH Henri Guérin de Pierrefeu before being rolled out widely. Surrounded by the new medical governance — notably Dr Carrier (president of the CME of the CHITS) and Dr Bar (president of the CMG of the GHT) — the director concluded by quoting Flaubert, wishing that this new year be “beautiful and benevolent” for the entire hospital community.
