The Marine nationale boards a vessel flying a false flag
On January 22, assets of the Marine nationale intervened on the high seas, in the mer d'Alboran, on the cargo tanker GRINCH coming from Mourmansk.

Conducted on the basis of Article 110 of the Convention des Nations unies sur le droit de la mer, this operation aimed to verify the nationality of a vessel suspected of flying a false flag. After the boarding team went on board, the examination of documents confirmed the doubts regarding the regularity of the flag flown. A report was made to the procureur de la République de Marseille, competent under the maritime tribunal. In accordance with international law and at the request of the procureur de la République, the vessel was diverted on January 22 and escorted by assets of the Marine nationale to an anchorage point for further verifications. This action, carried out in cooperation with allies including the Royaume-Uni, illustrates the constant commitment and determination of France and its partners to act in respect of international law.
