"Matières en Suspens", a dive into the heart of an abstract universe
With Matières en Suspens, the artist invites the public to dive into an abstract universe where color, material, and structure dialogue in harmony.
Presented at the mairie d'honneur of Toulon until February 26, this solo exhibition brings together a selection of around forty acrylic works created using a palette knife. Each canvas presents itself as a space to explore, a sensitive territory where material seems held in a moment of tension, ready to transform. The compositions are structured around fragmented geometric shapes, with intersecting, overlapping, or partially fading verticals and horizontals.
They evoke, by turns, urban architecture, mental landscapes, geological strata, or imaginary cities. The colorful blocks, sometimes massive, sometimes more airy, structure the pictorial space while leaving room for the unexpected, for accidents, for the drifting eye.
CHROMATIC PALETTE The rich and contrasting chromatic palette plays a central role in this dynamic. Deep blues, warm ochres, intense reds, luminous yellows, and patinated grays create a constant tension between warmth and depth, opacity and transparency. The light is never static: it flows through the layers, surfaces, and then seems to recede, giving the works a unique vibration.
As the title "Matières en suspens" suggests, the work on material forms the thread of this exhibition. Thickness, scratches, friction, and traces of movement are deliberately left visible. They bear witness to a process of construction and deconstruction, where each canvas retains the memory of its successive transformations.
Time is thus inscribed in the very surface of the work, not as a narrative, but as a silent imprint.

La palette chromatique, riche et contrastée, joue un rôle central dans cette dynamique. Bleus profonds, ocres chauds, rouges intenses, jaunes lumineux et gris patinés instaurent une tension constante entre chaleur et profondeur, opacité et transparence. La lumière n’est jamais figée : elle circule à travers les couches, affleure à la surface, puis semble se retirer, donnant aux œuvres une vibration particulière. Comme le rappelle le titre « Matières en suspens », le travail de la matière constitue le fil conducteur de cette exposition. Épaisseurs, griffures, frottements et traces du geste sont volontairement laissés visibles. Ils témoignent d’un processus de construction et de déconstruction, où chaque toile conserve la mémoire de ses transformations successives. Le temps s’inscrit ainsi dans la surface même de l’œuvre, non comme un récit, mais comme une empreinte silencieuse. « Matières en Suspens » propose au visiteur une expérience à la fois visuelle et introspective.
