As the campaign for the municipal elections of March 15 and 22 is in full swing, the department's economic players intend to influence the programs. This is the purpose of the press conference organized on February 9 at the headquarters of the Fédération du BTP du Var, in La Valette-du-Var. Fabien Piersanti, president of the organization, and his Comité Exécutif unveiled an unprecedented initiative aimed at questioning future mayors on the crucial issues of construction, regional planning, and urban development.

ECONOMIC WEIGHT

The approach is not about corporatism but about local economic necessity. "The decisions that future mayors make will directly impact the health of a vital sector for the Var. Thus, the Bâtiment et des Travaux Publics sector represents 4,500 companies, more than 24,000 employees and temporary workers, as well as 8,000 artisans. In total, nearly one in five jobs depends, directly or indirectly, on the construction sector in the Var. With an annual turnover of nearly €3 billion excluding tax, the BTP remains an essential engine of local activity. The next mayors will have decisions to make for their constituents regarding housing, infrastructure, and urban planning," recalled President Piersanti, pointing out that these political choices translate concretely into order books or, conversely, job destruction. To make the builders' voices heard, the Fédération is deploying a two-stage strategy, described as unprecedented by Cyril Bollliet, general secretary of the organization: "On one hand, a major consultation has been launched among candidates in the 153 Var municipalities. The goal is to discuss their respective programs and submit concrete proposals from professionals to boost housing and infrastructure. On the other hand, the organization is specifically targeting eight major cities in the department: Toulon, La Seyne-sur-Mer, Hyères, Brignoles, Draguignan, Fréjus, Saint-Raphaël, and Sainte-Maxime. In these strategic municipalities, the Fédération goes further by independently interviewing candidates who accept the invitation. This rigorous method aims to confront campaign promises with the technical and economic realities on the ground."

HOUSING, WATER AND LAND
