Serving the municipalities of Six-Fours-les-Plages, Sanary-sur-Mer and Bandol, this modern 1,500 m² facility, the 'flagship of police buildings in the Var', meets the need for adapted premises, both in terms of security and public reception conditions as well as quality of work for the officers. It was inaugurated on February 20 by Simon Babre, préfet du Var, and the mayor of Sanary-sur-Mer in the presence of the mayors of the municipalities of Six-Fours-les-Plages and Bandol. Following the inaugural ceremony, a guided tour was led by district chief Vincent Graas, allowing officials to discover the advantages of this new police station.

PUBLIC SAFETY In September 2024, at the very start of the construction, the architect from Baudin Châteauneuf Dervaux announced delivery in February 2026. The deadlines have been met. 16 months later, the building has been delivered within a residential block.

'The district (Sanary-sur-Mer, Six-Fours-les-Plages and Bandol) now has a tool that matches the hope we place in our Police nationale. Because when we have the expectations that we do for our officers, it is legitimate and natural to give them an adapted working environment,' welcomed the préfet.

A four-story (R+3) building, the police station (116 officers, including 90 active police officers and 26 reservists) is equipped with a 19-space underground parking lot for staff. The Secrétariat Général pour l'Administration du ministère de l'Intérieur (SGAMI) will handle the maintenance and upkeep of the building, while the Ville de Sanary handled the construction of the building (€5.05M) on behalf of the State.

'The officers have 1,500 m² of floor space over three levels, compared to 630 m² for the old town-center police station. Open 24/7, it is larger, more comfortable, more modern and more secure. The interior layout includes technical, IT and video equipment.

The new premises have been designed to guarantee the confidentiality of users, their security and that of the officers,' added the representative of the State. Thus, on the top floor, the dining and break area, extended by a covered terrace, houses a gym that will also accommodate officers of the Police municipale de Sanary.

OPENING IN APRIL 'There are also 4 holding cells, equipped with their own toilets, which is very rare,' stated the procureur de la République, who admitted he had never seen any before. In addition, an interrogation (or lineup) room is planned with a two-way mirror. And, an office will be available to investigators for interviewing adults and minors (assisted by child specialists).

The police station also includes an assistance office for victims of domestic violence adjacent to the filing of complaints.

The public will be welcomed there starting in early March and early April. On the ground, in 2025, the police station recorded 3,189 incidents, representing a 0.7% decrease, a 5% drop in property damage, including a 24% decrease in burglaries, and a 2% decrease in offenses against persons. There were 6,800 emergency police response missions, including 2,400 interventions following calls to '17', averaging about twenty per day.

The detection rate increased by 8 percentage points according to the Police nationale.

EQUIPMENT POORLY LOCATED However, this police station is at the heart of a controversy raised by the municipal opposition. For Philippe Comani, the choice of Sanary-sur-Mer is a major strategic mistake. 'It is intolerable that the largest municipality in our police district (at least 37,109 inhabitants according to the latest census) is deprived of such a facility,' he declared in a press release.

According to the elected official, this police station should have been built in Six-Fours-les-Plages, the demographic nerve center of the district. The opposition councillor points to a significant disadvantage for his constituents: 'The disadvantage is all the more significant given the daytime traffic difficulties in our district and the lack of material and human resources of the six-fournais bureau de police nationale,' he specifies. He recalls that the local branch, located at 135 rue de la Cauquière, is only open on weekdays and closes at 5:00 p.m., offering a service deemed insufficient.
