Colorectal cancer screening, a major public health issue
In March, the Centre hospitalier de Toulon–La Seyne-sur-Mer mobilized for colorectal cancer screening.
As part of the national Mars Bleu campaign, dedicated to the prevention and screening of colorectal cancer, professionals from the Centre hospitalier intercommunal Toulon – La Seyne-sur-Mer reached out to the public throughout the month of March.
Several information booths were set up in various locations across the territory to raise public awareness about the importance of screening. A SIMPLE TEST The kickoff for this series of actions took place on March 4 at the Mayol shopping centre in Toulon, where hospital teams and their partners welcomed the public to answer questions. Throughout the month, other events provided opportunities to interact with healthcare professionals and stakeholders involved in prevention.
Among them were the CPAM du Var, La Ligue contre le cancer and the CRCDC Sud PACA, partners in these awareness campaigns. These booths made it possible to address risk factors, prevention methods and, above all, the procedures for organized screening.
Screening relies on a simple, quick, and painless test that detects the presence of blood in the stool. It is recommended every two years for women and men aged 50 to 74. The kit can be obtained in several ways: in pharmacies with a Vitale card upon presentation of the letter sent by the CPAM, during a doctor's consultation, or by ordering it online.
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in France, affecting more than 47,000 people each year, both men and women. Often silent in its early stages, it can be diagnosed late.
Yet, regular screening significantly increases the chances of recovery. Detected early, this cancer can be treated effectively, and precancerous lesions can even be removed before they turn into cancer.
This is why people aged 50 to 74 are invited every two years to participate in the national organized screening program, a simple act that can save lives.
