François de Canson: 'Moving the town forward without ever damaging it'

It was in a solemn atmosphere that François de Canson put on, on Saturday, March 21, the tricolor sash for a new mandate at the head of the town hall of La Londe-les-Maures. Following his landslide victory in the municipal elections of March 15, where his list won over 80% of the votes with a remarkable turnout of nearly 71%, the mayor delivered an inaugural speech blending gratitude, a review of his track record, and a vision of the future for the Var commune he has led since 2008.

HISTORIC RESULT

From the beginning of his speech, he expressed his deep emotion at the massive renewal of trust by his fellow citizens. "I see in this historic score and in this equally historic turnout, the undeniable validation of a record which is that of our outgoing majority," he declared, also seeing in it "the endorsement of an ambitious municipal project." Conscious of the responsibility that such support represents, he stressed that trust "above all obligates the person who becomes its custodian." The mayor thus reaffirmed his commitment to serve all residents, including those who expressed a different choice, reminding that "to be mayor is to lead for everyone." The re-elected mayor spoke at length about the philosophy that has guided his action since the beginning of his commitment: preserving the identity of La Londe-les-Maures while modernizing it. "Moving the town forward without ever damaging it," summarized the mayor, defining his political line as a constant balance "between heritage and the future, between attachment to our roots and the necessary transformations of our time." This approach is based, according to him, on rigorous management of public finances, an indispensable condition for investing without compromising the future. "The elected official who commits this money must always do so with the same prudence they would use to manage the resources of their own family," he further asserted.

This financial discipline is intended to make several structuring projects for the commune a reality over the coming years. François de Canson also paid a vibrant tribute to all those who bring life to the commune on a daily basis. He pointed out that "a town is not just about its projects. It lives through the women and men who make its heart beat every day." He thus praised the commitment of community volunteers, shopkeepers, craftsmen, winemakers, farmers, and fishermen who "perpetuate the identity of our region." He also thanked the business owners, tourism stakeholders, security forces, municipal staff, and all residents who, through their attachment, "make the soul of this commune." Concluding his speech with a call for unity, the mayor recalled his duty to "hand down to future generations a town that is even more beautiful, stronger, and even more faithful to what it is."

Education, with the reconstruction of the Jean-Jaurès school to offer children a "modern facility, adapted to pedagogical and environmental requirements." Culture, with the transformation of the site of the former junior high school into a cultural and community hub destined to become "a place of transmission, creation, and meeting."
