Conducted on the basis of Article 110 of the Convention des Nations unies sur le droit de la mer, this operation aimed to verify the nationality of this vessel suspected of flying a false flag. After the boarding party went on board, the examination of documents confirmed doubts regarding the regularity of the flag flown. A report was made to the procureur de la République de Marseille, competent under the maritime tribunal. In accordance with international law and at the request of the procureur de la République, the vessel was diverted and escorted by Marine nationale assets to an anchorage point for further verifications. This action, carried out in cooperation with allies including the Royaume-Uni, which participated in tracking the vessel, illustrates the commitment and determination of France and its partners to act in respect of international law.
