600 high school students gathered around Olympic values
The first edition of the Olympiades lycéennes took place on March 30 in La Garde.
Officially opening the Semaine olympique et paralympique, the Olympiades lycéennes, representing one of the first educational highlights associated with the Parlement régional des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques 2030 – Passion Montagne 2050, brought together 600 high school students around sports practice and Olympic values. The Région Sud and its Parlement Régional de la Jeunesse supported this event to the tune of €4,000. Thus, on March 30, Sylvie Laporte, regional councillor representing Renaud Muselier, president of the Région, took part in the closing ceremony of the first edition of the Olympiades lycéennes organized by the Union Nationale du Sport Scolaire in La Garde, in the presence of Frédérique Klein, Inspectrice d'académie, Directrice académique adjointe des services de l'Education nationale representing Natacha Chicot, Rectrice de l'académie de Nice and Pierre Manfredi, para-snowboarder, patron of the event.
Looking to the future, the Région Sud sees the winter Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2030 as a historical opportunity. For François de Canson, vice-president of the Région Sud: "They are not an end in themselves but a powerful lever: 'We are not hosting the Games to shine for two weeks on television. We are welcoming these games to prepare the mountain of tomorrow.
The ambition is to leave a lasting legacy with an accelerator for decarbonized mobility such as the train, a catalyst to structure the Alpine economic sectors, and a wonderful tool to strengthen the image of Nice and its mountains on the international stage."
