Nuclear power, a key sector for our independence

The CEA de Cadarache, Iter, the shipyards of Toulon, the EDF maintenance center in Marseille, offer opportunities in many professions, from CAP to Bac +5. Subcontractors and prime contractors in the sector are recruiting technicians for two-thirds of the positions to be filled. These positions relate to the field of prevention, safety, and maintenance (electricity, welding, milling, valve systems, air conditioning, for example) but also positions related to the construction sector (masonry, plumbing, site management).

The ambitions of public energy and industrial policies, as well as the evolution of the age pyramid, support recruitment needs and lead industrialists to anticipate the future. JOBS OF THE FUTURE Thus, from March 9 to 13 in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France Travail and the nuclear sector wanted to attract candidates to little-known professions, whether they are people changing careers or young candidates. Recruiters in the sector were also looking to develop diversity in their teams and are diversifying their sourcing to find the expertise or skills they are looking for.

"Nuclear energy is a key sector for our energy independence, providing jobs of the future. Nuclear recruiters must meet the challenge of diversity and the age pyramid. That is why France Travail has mobilized alongside local nuclear players, notably with the Université des métiers du Nucléaire.

We contribute to revealing job and training opportunities but also to shaking up some preconceived ideas. The objective? Satisfying companies and inspiring new vocations," explained Guillaume Sagot, industry expert at France Travail Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

"It is natural for France Travail and the Université des Métiers du Nucléaire (UMN) to be associated to co-pilot the Semaine des Métiers du Nucléaire. The UMN plays, for middle school, high school, and university students, a role comparable to that of France Travail with job seekers: accompanying, guiding, and introducing them to the opportunities of a highly dynamic sector. By pooling our actions on certain events, we offered participants a concrete immersion into the world of nuclear energy.

This collaboration has helped highlight companies in the sector (VSEs, SMEs, and nuclear operators), its training programs, as well as its institutions — some of which, still little known to the general public, play an essential role in implementing the measures mobilized during this week, like the Campus des Métiers et des Qualifications or the ForIndustrie platform," declared Xavier Michoux, regional correspondent for UMN Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
