A mandate focused on unity
Elected mayor of Toulon, Josée Massi delivered an inaugural speech focusing on unity, security, and proximity.
A new page is turning for Toulon. This Friday, March 27, during the first Conseil municipal of the term, Josée Massi was elected mayor of the city, following the elections of March 22. In a solemn and emotional speech, the mayor outlined the main areas of her project, placing unity and action at the heart of her commitment. “By electing me mayor of Toulon, the Conseil municipal entrusts me with one of the most beautiful, but also one of the most demanding responsibilities. I measure the scope of the mission entrusted to me. I accept it with humility and responsibility,” she declared in her opening remarks. From her very first words, Josée Massi insisted on her desire to be the mayor of everyone, beyond political divisions: “I am the mayor of all Toulonnais, I will govern for everyone. My only compass will be the general interest,” while paying tribute to all the candidates and members of the new council, both majority and opposition. Inviting respectful democratic debate, she recalled the city's motto: “In harmony, great things are done.” A principle she hopes will inspire the upcoming term, to “make what unites us prevail over what divides us.” Her method of governance is clear: “proximity, humanity, and pragmatism,” to meet the expectations of citizens and concerns related to the cost of living, access to healthcare, or the future of the youth.
SECURITY AND PROXIMITY
Le temps de la campagne étant révolu, la maire a présenté une feuille de route pour les mois à venir. La première priorité est la sécurité, qualifiée de « première des libertés ». Une action rapide est annoncée pour ajuster l'organisation de la police municipale afin de renforcer sa présence sur le terrain et sa visibilité. La proximité est le deuxième axe majeur, englobant les problématiques quotidiennes des habitants : voirie, éclairage public, entretien des espaces et circulation. Un effort particulier sera porté sur les quartiers, notamment au Pont-du- Las et à Saint-Jean-du-Var, pour lesquels elle souhaite engager une démarche forte, inspirée du succès de la revitalisation du centre-ville. Les projets déjà engagés, comme celui de Mayol à Pipady ou l'amélioration du stade Mayol, seront poursuivis. Une nouveauté sera également lancée : l'application « Toulon & Vous », destinée à faciliter l'accès des citoyens aux services de l'administration municipale. La première magistrate a également détaillé sa vision de la gouvernance qu'elle souhaite plus ouverte. Elle s'est engagée à examiner les « idées utiles » venant de l'opposition et à développer une démocratie participative plus active, en associant davantage les habitants, les associations et les comités d'intérêt local. Un hommage appuyé a été rendu aux agents municipaux. « Sans eux, rien ne se fait. Ce sont eux qui font vivre le service public au quotidien », a-t-elle souligné, promettant une grande attention à leur bien-être au travail, à la formation et à la qualité de l'encadrement. Enfin, elle a pris un engagement solennel : mettre toute son énergie au service de la ville avec probité et détermination : « Le mandat que je reçois aujourd'hui n'appartient pas à un camp, mais à une ville. Cette ville, je l'aime profondément, et elle mérite que l'on soit à sa hauteur ». • est retiré car c'est un séparateur. Le texte se termine par la citation.
