Three artists, between here and elsewhere, at the « Le Moulin » gallery

Carefully identified and chosen by Betty Pommet, the officer in charge of the municipal gallery, these art pieces offered a form of journey, a dialogue between disciplines and universes. On the occasion of the opening, Céline Akkad, Christian Candelier, and Véronique Sanson (the watercolorist, not the singer!) thus explained the basis of their respective works to the art lovers and elected officials present, embracing these echoes between their canvases and their sculptures.

AN INTIMATE ART

Trois artistes, entre ici et ailleurs, à la galerie « Le Moulin »

Introduced by Julien Argento, the first magistrate of La Valette, who was accompanied by Élodie Verse, elected official delegate for Culture and Events, Céline Akkad opened the proceedings. Marked by her experience in Syria and her hasty return to France, the painter and illustrator. It was she who notably created the poster representing the Porte de l’église Saint-Jean à la Porte latine valettoise, the emblem of the restoration project. She develops an intimate art, a true refuge, where each canvas helps to preserve the landscapes of the South of France, their light, their share of daily life. As such, many items of Eastern craftsmanship (rugs, brassware, etc.) were displayed in large showcases, offering a welcome context to better understand and appreciate the intensity of the paintings exhibited in the vaulted room and the third room.

BEAUTY OF THE BODY

The second guest artist, Christian Candelier, followed. Based in Sanary-sur-Mer, the Var sculptor explores the beauty of the female body through his colorful bronzes, sometimes electric blue, sometimes earthy red. Playing with balance, movement, and the delicacy of lines, the artist, recognized in France and internationally, likes to place his sculptures on elements drawn from nature (grapevine stocks, for example), thereby reinforcing the dialogue with the other exhibited works, themselves inspired by the close links between architecture and nature.

DELICATE PICTORIAL ART

Finally, the public admired the refined watercolors of Véronique Sanson. A graduate of the École des Beaux-arts de Toulouse, the Toulon native indeed develops a delicate pictorial art, where meticulous drawing is at the heart of her work, serving to magnify buildings and natural spaces. Sacré-Cœur, Grand Palais, the port of Saint-Tropez, or even Breton beaches—so many emblematic sites of French heritage that come to life in her works, in bluish tones, punctuated here and there by highlights of gold glitter or India ink. So many open doors to worlds of imagination that captivated young and old alike, just like the other monthly exhibitions organized by the municipal gallery.
