Ecological, practical and beneficial for mobility, cycling is attracting more and more residents. But this craze is accompanied by sometimes dangerous behavior: riding on sidewalks, failure to respect traffic lights or pedestrian crossings, which endanger both cyclists and pedestrians. The authorities point out that cyclists are considered drivers under the Code de la route.

They must therefore respect the same rules as motorists and can be penalized in the event of an offense. The road is a shared space between cyclists, motorists and pedestrians. Respecting the Code de la route helps prevent accidents and ensure everyone's safety.

Cyclists, motorists and pedestrians, vigilance and mutual respect are essential for peaceful cohabitation on our roads and cycle paths.

PLEASE NOTE... THE MAIN RULES TO RESPECT: • Traffic lights: Cyclists must come to a complete stop at a red light (Article R412-30). Failure to comply results in a –135 fine.

In some cases, a specific sign for cyclists (M12) may authorize crossing a traffic light, subject to yielding the right of way. • STOP signs: A complete stop is mandatory before the line or the pedestrian crossing (Article R415-6). –135 fine.

• Priority to pedestrians: Pedestrians on a pedestrian crossing have priority. Any failure to yield is punishable by a –135 fine.
