The hyérois cultural landscape experienced a highlight with the visit of Fabienne Verdier, one of the most influential French artists of her generation. The musée du Niel welcomed the painter for an exclusive lecture-meeting on May 9. This highly anticipated event for local art lovers demonstrated the vitality of the local art scene and the appeal of a creator whose work has gained global recognition. Faced with such enthusiasm, the meeting was sold out, confirming the artist's iconic status.

Indeed, the announcement of this lecture prompted an immediate response from the public, quickly exceeding the museum's capacity. The management of the establishment, led by Florence Denis, expressed its immense joy at welcoming such a central figure of contemporary art, while expressing regret at not being able to meet all registration requests. This dazzling success highlighted not only the popularity of Fabienne Verdier, but also the relevance of the programming at the musée du Niel, which is establishing itself as a key venue for art on the Côte d'Azur.

UNIQUE TRAJECTORY

Born in 1962, Fabienne Verdier is famous for her monumental works, which lie at the crossroads of Eastern calligraphy and Western lyrical abstraction. Her artistic approach was deeply marked by a long stay in China in the 1980s, where, having freshly graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Toulouse, she was the first foreign student to be admitted to the Institut des Beaux-Arts du Sichuan. For nearly ten years, she immersed herself in the study of Chinese thought, aesthetics, and traditional painting under great masters. Upon returning to France, she developed a unique technique, working vertically, standing on her canvases placed on the ground, and using immense suspended brushes that she designed herself. Her work explores the dynamic forces of nature, the energy of the line, and the physical, almost choreographic, relationship between the artist's body and the canvas. Her collaborations with musicians, such as those from the Juilliard School in New York, or scientists, bear witness to a constant quest for dialogue between disciplines.
