A new sports showcase facing the rade des Vignettes
On April 21, Josée Massi, mayor of Toulon, inaugurated the new sports park at the beaches of Mourillon.
This major project transforms this 6,000 m² space on the Toulon coastline into an open-air stadium, allowing people to discover new 'trendy' disciplines. Investment amount: €1.285 million. 5-a-side football, pickleball, table tennis, fitness, beach soccer, volleyball, and rugby: these new disciplines are available with free access at the sports park.
This space was redesigned and then redeveloped over the winter on the former dirt football pitch, which had been abandoned because it was no longer adapted to current sports practices. Led by the Sports department in coordination with the other services in charge of green spaces, these works were inaugurated by Josée Massi, mayor of Toulon, and her Municipal Council.
"We continued the developments started last year, notably with the creation of this sports park and a picnic area. Everyone was telling us there would be damage, that it wouldn't be used. It's quite the opposite!
It is so highly popular that we have been asked to build another one right behind these new sports facilities," emphasized the mayor, after cutting the ribbon, surrounded by young budding athletes.
Made available to the residents of Toulon since April 4, 2026, the venue is already highly popular. Because all these sports focus on sharing and intergenerational connection, and because six new picnic tables have been installed nearby. Shaded by sails, they offer spaces for relaxation and conviviality.
LE MOURILLON, THE TOULON VENICE BEACH These developments between the Lido and Mistral coves confirm the reputation of the beaches of Mourillon as the Toulon Venice Beach. A name that the youth of the Mourillon Basket collective had given to this iconic location during the inauguration of the 3x3 basketball court in November 2024.
"We made the choice to redevelop this space by providing residents with modern, modular, and accessible sports and recreational facilities. Designed from the outset as an inclusive space, the site was developed to be accessible to all audiences. Adapted pathways, rest areas, and the layout of equipment allow for fluid and safe movement, promoting access for people with reduced mobility, families, and all users.
The surroundings of the sports park have been redesigned using vegetation that reinforces the presence of nature while defining the various activities coexisting on the beaches of Mourillon. 22 new trees as well as 1,150 m² of flowerbeds with species adapted to the Mediterranean climate have been planted to promote biodiversity while limiting water needs," continued Josée Massi.
GETTING TOULON RESIDENTS MOVING And what could be better than taking up or returning to sport in a privileged setting where the view of the rade des Vignettes helps you push your limits? By installing this new equipment and offering these emerging disciplines within the municipal territory, the City is demonstrating its ambition: to get its residents moving to fight sedentary lifestyles and promote a more inclusive, educational, healthy, and dynamic society.
To achieve this, the municipality has built a strategy encompassing social cohesion, education, health, and economic dynamism. The promotion of physical activity among both the youth and seniors is included in the local health contract (CLS) signed by Josée Massi last December with the Agence régionale de santé (ARS).
In June, a ninja course will be installed. This area, intended for teenagers, will feature various apparatus such as a cliffhanger, a moving beam, a double beam, or a double suspension. Fun and stimulating, this course helps build agility, strength, balance, and endurance.
This achievement is part of a global policy to modernize the city's infrastructure, proving that Toulon, a city of rugby, is also a city of sport for all.
