Valérie Daumas wins the Grand Prix Dieudonné Jacobs

The artist was rewarded during the opening of the exhibition organized on May 19 at the salle Gérard-Philipe in the presence of the president of the Département Jean-Louis Masson and the mayor of La Garde Hélène Arnaud-Bill.

This cultural event, supported by the association des amis du peintre Dieudonné Jacobs and the Ville, was held from May 19 to 23. Every year, the event alternates between La Garde and the city of Spa in Belgique, thus perpetuating the artistic and historical links between the two cities.

Open to all figurative painters, the competition aims to promote contemporary artistic creation while keeping the heritage of the painter Dieudonné Jacobs alive. For this 2026 edition, 34 artists of different nationalities participated in the competition.

In addition to the grand prix Dieudonné Jacobs, two artists were honored with the association's prize awarded to Claude Jouan and Gaëlle Pinchon who received the prize of the Ville de La Garde. "It was my mother who, upon her father's death, decided to create this association to perpetuate his memory and promote young painters," explained Stéphane Ortégat, grandson of the painter and vice-president of the association.

He added: "Two associative structures were founded, in La Garde and in Spa. They are at the origin of the twinning between the two cities.

The winner will exhibit this summer in Spa. This prize can serve as a springboard, but it is above all an event that promotes mutual aid and kindness, values dear to my grandfather."
