His mission is highly strategic: he is in charge of managing sensitive files, particularly those related to public safety and public order.

He ensures coordination between the police, gendarmerie, and emergency services, and plays an essential interface role with local elected officials, socio-economic actors, and the consular corps.
He is also the one who supervises the prefecture's communication and manages the schedule of the State representative in the department.
First meeting with the press
To mark his entry into office and establish initial contact with local and regional media, Guillaume Afonso presented himself to journalists on August 4.
This meeting was an opportunity for the new chief of staff to detail his professional background and outline the main points of the missions entrusted to him.
