Jean-Louis Masson: "This medal is theirs as much as mine"
The President of Var received the Internal Security Medal for organizing the 80th anniversary of the Provence Landing.
On August 15, during the commemorative ceremonies of the Provence Landing at the Nécropole nationale de Boulouris, in Saint-Raphaël, Jean-Louis Masson, President of the Department, was decorated with the Internal Security Medal. The distinction was presented to him by Alice Rufo, Minister Delegate for Defense.
This medal rewards the commitment and work accomplished in organizing the 80th anniversary of the Provence Landing in August 2024.
For several months, the Department played a central role in coordinating this major memorial event. In collaboration with the State, municipalities, patriotic associations, the armed forces, and security and rescue services, the Department helped organize the many events marking these celebrations.
A collective recognition
Hailing a collective honor, Jean-Louis Masson associated all partners and departmental agents with this recognition: "I receive this medal with great honor and emotion. I consider it a recognition of the collective work accomplished to keep the duty of memory alive and to pay tribute to those who, 80 years ago, fought to liberate France."

Jean-Louis Masson added: "The Provence Landing belongs to our national history, but it is also deeply rooted in the history of Var. It was therefore our responsibility to make this 80th anniversary a great moment of transmission, worthy of the sacrifice of those who landed on our shores."
"I want to associate with this distinction all those who contributed to the success of these commemorations. This medal is theirs as much as mine," he concluded.
A place full of symbolism
The presentation of this decoration in the symbolic setting of the Nécropole nationale de Boulouris added a special dimension to the tribute. This memorial site, where many fighters of the Liberation of Provence rest, recalled the solemnity of the celebrated commitment.
Through this event, the Department reaffirmed its attachment to the duty of memory, the transmission of history, and the recognition of those who, yesterday and today, contribute to the protection of the country.
