La plage des Oursinières, an ever more inclusive space
The municipality has acquired a new launching wheelchair to make La plage des Oursinières more accessible to people with reduced mobility.
In June, Hervé Stassinos, the mayor, accompanied by Éric Galiano, deputy mayor delegated to inclusion and disability, and Isabelle Lenoir, municipal councillor delegated to prevention, presented the launching wheelchair intended for people with reduced mobility.
Until 2024, La plage des Oursinières was equipped with a Hippocampe-type wheelchair. Thanks to its all-terrain features, it served a dual purpose: it allowed users to move on the sand and was made available to the ULIS class of the Sandro school during school outings.
New equipment for summer 2025
Since summer 2025, the municipality has acquired a WaterWheels wheelchair, designed to facilitate launching for people with reduced mobility. Costing €1,500 excl. tax, this equipment allows the Hippocampe wheelchair to remain at the permanent disposal of the ULIS class.
Objective: the Handiplage label
My objective is to make this site as inclusive as possible in order to eventually obtain the Handiplage label. I would like to thank all the stakeholders – technical services, firefighters, and everyone who works every year for the opening of the summer season – who enable the installation of equipment making this beach accessible to people with reduced mobility
Improvements for better accessibility
This investment is part of a desire to make La plage des Oursinières an ever more inclusive space. The site features several facilities promoting its accessibility. It is equipped with a car park with two spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility, public toilets nearby, as well as facilitated access to the beach.
The WaterWheels wheelchair can be borrowed upon request from the lifeguard station staff.
The beach has also been equipped, for three years, with an access mat allowing wheelchairs to move to the water's edge. Installed near a PRM parking space and public toilets, this facility could be supplemented by a second mat. A study is underway to install it closer to the lifeguard station and the second reserved parking space.
