CCFF equips itself with a drone, a first in Var
The Comité Communal des Feux de Forêt has presented its new surveillance drone, a pioneering tool in the department.
The Comité Communal des Feux de Forêt (CCFF) has taken a new technological step forward in its fire prevention mission. On July 31, the municipality presented its first surveillance drone for forest massifs, in the presence of the mayor Hervé Stassinos, Isabelle Lenoir, municipal councillor delegated to prevention, and Thierry Rabino, delegated president of the local CCFF.
This investment, funded thanks to a grant from the Ville du Pradet, positions the municipality as a leader in preventive innovation. Indeed, the CCFF becomes the first committee in Var to integrate an unmanned aircraft dedicated to the surveillance of its natural spaces. This equipment reinforces the human and material resources already deployed on the ground to protect the forest heritage.
A versatile tool
The drone offers both a faster and more complete surveillance capability for sensitive sectors. It can reach steep areas in a few minutes, which are difficult to access for patrols on foot or in motorized vehicles, thus allowing reconnaissance and the clearing up of doubts almost instantaneously.

Equipped with a high-definition camera, it transmits real-time images to the command post, offering a precise view of the situation on the ground. Its integrated loudspeaker is a major advantage as it allows the broadcasting of audible prevention messages or the reminder of current regulations to individuals who may be in a forest area closed to the public due to high fire risks.
Thierry Rabino, delegated president of the CCFF, contextualizes the relevance of this tool: "But beware. This tool is particularly useful in the municipality because of the small size of the forest area."
A regulated deployment
Put into service at the end of July, the drone will not be flown by just anyone. Its use is reserved for CCFF volunteers who have undergone specific training and obtained the qualification of remote pilot, ensuring perfect control of the device and regulations.
In addition, its deployment is subject to strict airspace rules. The proximity of the Base d'aéronautique navale (BAN) of Hyères imposes rigorous management of flight authorizations, which must be requested and validated before each mission, ensuring perfect coordination with the military air activities in the sector.
