Le Lavandou: a citizen reserve reinforces the monitoring of massifs

Faced with the influx of tourists, the Ville has created a Réserve Communale de Sécurité Civile to intensify fire prevention.

While the summer season is in full swing, vigilance is required in the face of the high risk of forest fires, accentuated by dense tourist numbers.

To deal with this, the Municipalité officialised the creation, on May 19, of a structure: the Réserve Communale de Sécurité Civile (RCSC).

At the end of June, a consultation meeting defined the outlines of this system. Presided over by François Bonifacio, deputy for security and major risks, and in the presence of Florent Ducloud, in charge of risk prevention, this meeting was held under the authority of the mayor, Bertrand Carletti.

UNIFIED FORCE

The innovation of this RCSC is to integrate within it the volunteers of the Comité Communal des Feux de Forêt (CCFF), recognisable by their orange outfits. This merger makes it possible to create a unified force of volunteers, mobilisable for monitoring the massifs, but also to ensure increased vigilance during the numerous summer festivities and events.

Their field of action also extends to other major risks such as floods or storms.

Varied and complementary profiles

The strength of the RCSC-CCFF lies in the diversity and complementarity of the profiles of its members. The system relies on the commitment of citizens from all backgrounds: former gendarmes, retired firefighters, hunters with perfect knowledge of the terrain, athletes or even teachers.

This network of goodwill constitutes a valuable and indispensable aid to the professional rescue services, whether municipal police, the gendarmerie nationale or firefighters.

A system of shifts has been set up to organise daily patrols and ensure continuous monitoring of sensitive areas until the end of the summer season.

Inquire about access to the massifs

So that residents and visitors can adapt their activities according to the level of risk, the services of the préfecture du Var distribute an updated map of access to the forest massifs of the department at the end of each day. This information is publicly accessible and allows everyone to behave responsibly.
