Le Pradet: the Town rewarded for the Sandro school garden-courtyard
The Town of Le Pradet received the Regional "Qualité de vie" Prize for the design of the garden-courtyard at the Sandro school group.
In June, the Town received the Regional "Qualité de vie" Prize from the "Villes et Villages Fleuris" label for the design of the garden-courtyard at the Sandro school group. This distinction rewards an exemplary achievement, designed to meet the challenges of climate change and improve the daily lives of students.
Already in 2025, the Conseil d’Architecture, d’Urbanisme et de l’Environnement (CAUE) of Var had chosen to highlight this project by organizing a visit for elected officials and technicians from local authorities in the department.
The garden-courtyard of Le Pradet was then presented as a reference in terms of renaturing school spaces and adapting to new environmental and pedagogical requirements.
A broad consultation
"With this development co-funded by the Town, the Agence de l’Eau, and the State, we illustrate our desire to create public spaces that are more resilient to heat episodes while promoting the well-being and development of the youngest," explained Hervé Stassinos, the mayor.
This innovative project was indeed designed based on a broad consultation. Workshops were conducted with the students to identify their needs and expectations. Teachers, parents, activity leaders, and school staff were involved in the reflection to imagine a space adapted to everyone's uses.
Today, this courtyard transformed into an island of freshness offers a more pleasant and natural environment for children. Play areas coexist with vegetated, inclusive zones conducive to discovering biodiversity.
Each child participated in the project by planting their own plant species, thus reinforcing their sense of ownership of the place and their environmental awareness.
The garden-courtyard in numbers
The garden-courtyard represents an area of 3,600 m².
Out of this area, there are 2,000 m² of green spaces, 1,100 m² of draining soils, and 500 m² of impermeable surfaces.
It accommodates 107 trees and fruit shrubs and 716 shrubs and perennials.
