Var pays tribute to the Morts pour la France in Indochine
On June 8, the department commemorated the Morts pour la France in Indochine, in the presence of Minister Alice Rufo in Fréjus.
A national day of tribute
On June 8, this commemoration was part of the national day of tribute, set on June 8, the date of the transfer of the remains of the Unknown Soldier of Indochine to the national necropolis of Notre-Dame de Lorette in 1980.
It honors the memory of the soldiers of the Union française who fell during this distant and painful conflict that took place from 1946 to 1954.
Beyond protocol, this ceremony represents an opportunity to remember the sacrifices made by tens of thousands of soldiers for France, in a conflict that deeply marked the national history of the 20th century.
Ceremony at the Fréjus Memorial
Alice Rufo, Minister Delegate for Veterans Affairs, traveled to the Mémorial des guerres en Indochine in Fréjus.
This site, classified among the ten high places of national memory, was inaugurated in 1993 by President François Mitterrand. It houses the remains of military personnel declared "Morts pour la France" during the Indochinese conflict, between 1940 and 1954.
The speech by Alice Rufo preceded the traditional wreath-laying, the minute of silence, and the Marseillaise.
Afterwards, a presentation of the ongoing renovation work on the site was given by the Office National des Anciens Combattants et Victimes de Guerre (ONACVG).
The recognition of the Nation
In the afternoon, the Minister met with civil security forces in Brignoles, placing her visit under the banner of the Nation's recognition of its soldiers, past and present.
