CM2 school children take on the road safety challenge
On June 16, 135 CM2 pupils from five municipalities took part in the final of the Challenge intercommunal de sécurité routière.
The final of the 2026 edition of the Challenge intercommunal de sécurité routière brought together five classes from the municipalities of Carqueiranne, La Crau, La Garde, Le Pradet and La Valette-du-Var, for a day dedicated to prevention and learning about citizenship on the road.
In total, 135 young pupils took part in this friendly competition, testing their knowledge and reflexes. The programme was structured around theoretical workshops, evaluating their mastery of the Code de la route, and practical exercises on a specially designed track.
The objective was to raise awareness among children, future road users, about good travel practices and fundamental safety rules.
A victorious class from La Garde
At the end of an intense day, it was the CM2 class of Mme Muffat, from the Paul-Langevin school in La Garde, that won first place in the challenge. The pupils obtained an overall average of 18.14 out of 20, a performance praised by the organizers.
This result crowned educational work carried out throughout the school year by the teacher and her pupils.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
Beyond the competition, the organizers highlighted the seriousness, involvement and sense of responsibility of the young participants. The commitment of the educational teams was put forward as a factor in the success of this prevention day.
Created in 2002, this challenge is part of the implementation of the Attestation de Première Education à la Route (APER). It constitutes a stage in the educational continuum regarding road safety, before pupils enter middle school.
This approach meets the objectives set by the common core of knowledge and skills expected at the end of the primary cycle. APER is supplemented at the national level by the "Savoir Rouler à Vélo" (SRAV) scheme, which enables children to acquire the skills to ride a bicycle independently and safely.
